Jacques Ellul and the Critique of the Technological Order

In a world increasingly shaped by algorithm, automation, and control, the voice of Jacques Ellul has never been more prophetic. His deep critique of la technique—the autonomous force of technological development unmoored from human values—strikes at the core of our contemporary condition. Unlike many critics of technology, Ellul did not advocate for naive rejection, but for lucid awareness of the spiritual dangers embedded in the technical matrix of modern life.
This lucidity is foundational to my work. In both The Solar Warrior and Operative Traditions, I engage Ellul’s insights not only analytically, but operatively: showing how the technical world can be approached through spiritual discipline, symbolic intelligence, and a revived sense of form. I expand Ellul’s critique into a proposal for transformation—drawing not only on theology and sociology, but on the body, the craft, and the built environment as sacred interfaces where humanity can reclaim agency and meaning.
Rather than simply denounce the Techno-System, I expose its roots, reveal its laws, and challenge its illusions by pointing to a new model of development: one in which nature, value, and freedom are not sacrificed, but restored through operative action.

In Operative Traditions there are a total of 125 references to Ellul´s work, and in The Solar Warrior series there are 78 references.
